Our profession is increasingly conscious of the toll that the practice of law can take on mental health and overall well-being. In addition to inherent stressors such as complicated files and impending deadlines, this session will also consider how lawyering culture and expectations lead to poor mental health. You will learn coping strategies that you can use to counteract the biological effects of stress, develop resilience and craft the work life that you want. There will also be discussion of the Law(yer) Strong peer support program and the importance of building community within the legal profession so that lawyers feel comfortable reaching out to one another for connection and support.
Presenters Include:
Dr. Hygiea Casiano, Psychiatrist, Health Sciences Centre
Tamara McCaffrey, Law(yer) Strong
