This program is intended for criminal defence practitioners in the early years of practice.
This workshop will focus on the work of defence counsel after the Crown has put in its case at trial. A diverse and experienced teaching faculty will provide guidance on direct examination, from opening to closing statements and the considerations in between.
You will observe faculty demonstrations, practice a direct examination during small group work, and receive practical tips on the fundamentals that you need to know, including:
- motions for no evidence
- calling your client to testify
- the rule in Browne v Dunn
- exhibits
- objections
- re-examination
