Remote Witnessing of Documents: Processes Under the Permanent Regulations
1.25 CPD Hours | 1.25 EPPM
Recorded 2021-11-10
New regulations apply to the remote witnessing and commissioning of documents by video-conference. Effective October 1, 2021, these permanent regulations replace the temporary orders made under The Emergency Measures Act at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lawyers need to familiarize themselves with the new regulations and adapt their processes accordingly, as there are some significant changes from what was established under the temporary regime.
Watch this “how-to” session to learn what is required when using video-conferencing as an alternative to in-person attendance. Easy to use Remote Witnessing Checklist included.
Please note: If you witness documents that relate to a financial transaction by video conference (Zoom, Teams, etc.), you cannot satisfy the requirements of the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing rules by looking at the client’s government-issued photo ID on your screen. Visit our Anti-Money Laundering resource library for more information.
